About BlackOnWhite

Blackonwhite supports New Zealanders on Snow.

New Zealand has had moments of glory on the international snow sports stage, but they are too few and far between for a country that has the geography and guts to qualify as an alpine nation.

Our sporadic snow sports triumphs are often more to do with luck than good planning. Imagine what could be achieved with adequate resources and management?

blackonwhite is a brand that has been especially created for New Zealand's winter endeavours and means "New Zealanders on Snow." It is intended to become a global marketing platform for the benefit of The Snowvision Foundation which supports New Zealand snow sports efforts, and can encompass all forms of snow sport - ski racing, snowboarding, free skiing, extreme skiing, cross country and more.

blackonwhite works as a brand because it is benefit driven. It aims to put black (New Zealand) on white (the international snow sport arena). Those who consume the blackonwhite brand will feel good about themselves, because they will be helping the brand donate funds to the Snowvision Foundation, develop New Zealand as a snow sport nation and help our snow sports athletes.

Promoting New Zealand as a winter destination

To build New Zealand's credibility in the snow sport world, blackonwhite aims to promote New Zealand as an international winter destination to take advantage of the large global snow sports market.

New Zealand as a training destination

We believe that there is the opportunity to convince more countries to send their teams here for southern hemisphere training. Currently our snow fields attract some of the best alpine athletes and teams in the world - such as Bode Miller, Herman Maier, ski teams from Austria, USA, Germany. By revealing our alpine resources to influential snow sport athletes, we can lift awareness of New Zealand as a snow sport nation and provide young New Zealanders with some excellent role models.

What does it cost to fund success on the snow?

To prepare for success, a snow sport athlete requires management, coaches, equipment, physical trainers and facilities, physiotherapy, nutritionists, and psychologists. The nature of snow sports incurs significant travel and accommodation costs throughout the year, especially with 5 months being spent in the Northern Hemisphere for the main competitive season each year.

We estimate that basic costs for each athlete are between $50,000 and $60,000 a year.
